Opening Reception Thursday, July 14, 2011, 6-8pm Bertrand Delacroix Gallery is pleased to inaugurate BDG Project Space with Blue Chip, an installation of portraits, created between 2009 and 2011, depicting some of the art world’s most talked about artists from Kiki Smith to Damien Hirst.

Blue Chip is a series of portraits of fifty artists who are, or have been internationally recognized as important artists and, in most cases, financially successful. Among them are Dan Flavin, Eric Fischl, April Gornik, Jennifer Bartlett, Marcel Duchamp, Lynda Benglis, Dennis Oppenheim, Gerhard Richter, Alice Aycock, Joseph Beuys, and Roy Lichtenstein, to name just a few. I have chosen artists I’ve admired, been influenced by, met, known, lived with, dated, or envied from afar. They represent my personal slice of the art world. –C. Maiwald

Christa Maiwald began her career in New York as a video artist in the 1970s. She had solo exhibitions at most major video venues, including the Whitney Museum, Franklin Furnace and Anthology Film Archives, and received numerous grants, including two each from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts. She has exhibited throughout the US and Europe, including the Parrish Museum of Art, Guild Hall Museum of New York, Museum of Arts and Design, and Heckscher Museum of Art. Her work can be found in private as well as public collections, including Sprint Corporate Collection; Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital, New York; and Ira Fink & Associates, Berkeley, CA.

Maiwald studied painting and sculpture at Tyler School of Art of Temple University in Philadelphia and completed her MFA in sculpture at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received the Graduate Student Fellowship Award. She lives and works in East Hampton, NY.

BDG Projects will host a wide range of projects, from quiet, meditative pieces to full-scale, site-specific installations. The space will focus on a variety of ideas to provide artists with a venue for showing challenging, cutting-edge works untested on main street. Works will range in scope and content, but will remain parallel to the gallery’s direction and intent. It is conceived as a space open to experimental works and nurturing to non-commercial concepts.

In the main space, Bertrand Delacroix Gallery is pleased to present A Season in Review featuring works from our January inaugural exhibition through June. Included are works by Ron Agam, Frank Brunner, Michaël de Kok, and prints editioned by Master Printer Luther Davis. It has been an exciting opening season.

Girls Bullying Girls - award winning postcard design Small
While at Penn State I got the wonderful opportunity to design this postcard. Being a Dad of three girls, I thought deeply about this design. Although my girls were only pre-schoolers at the time, I considered how would they feel if they were being bullied at school and did not want to tell me. (this design along with a suite of accompanying designs was recently awarded with an Inhouse award from Graphic Design USA see the award here ( the website based on the postcard I designed ). Thank you Herbert….

Artists’s Reception: Friday, July 29, 5:30 – 7:30pm

Santa Fe, NM—LewAllen Galleries is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition, Bending Light: Jeanette Pasin Sloan & Steve Smulka. On view at LewAllen Galleries Downtown from August 5 – September 5, 2011, the exhibition presents works by two leading artists who actively blur traditional genre distinctions to expand the range of contemporary representational painting.

Noted realist painter Jeanette Pasin Sloan brings still life painting to the edge of abstraction with her meticulous renderings of reflection and distortion. Evoking Op Art’s investigations into the dynamics of vision, her images of polished domestic objects reflecting the geometric patterns of decorator fabrics address the continuing resonance of Modernist aesthetics through their precision of design and composition. Her distinctive artworks in oils, gouache, and watercolor, are included in such significant public collections as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Gallery of Art, among numerous others. Sloan holds a BFA from Marymount College in New York and an MFA from the University of Chicago. The artist lives and works in New Mexico.

Steve Smulka has garnered international recognition for his novel approach toward contemporary realism. Extending the focus of the still life genre to annex elements of landscape painting, his work blurs the divide between traditional artistic categories. Further distinguished by his signature motif—the subtle modulations of light passing through oversized bottles, jars, and decanters—Smulka’s art has been collected by the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, the Oakland Art Museum, and the Scottsdale Museum of Art, among many others. A two-time recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, he was born in Detroit and studied at the University of Massachusetts and the School of Visual Arts in New York under acclaimed photorealist painter Chuck Close. The artist lives and works in New Mexico.

Thursday and Friday evenings from July 1 through August 26, 2011, visitors are invited to decorate their own album sleeves using various materials and inspiration from the Andy Warhol exhibition on view in the Ingram Gallery.

Vinyl Pop! has been developed in conjunction with Warhol Live: Music and Dance in Andy Warhol's Work, a show that delves deeply into the roles music and dance played in Warhol's life and work. During his lifetime, Warhol designed many album covers, and even won a major award for the Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers LP package, which is one of the works on display in Warhol Live. Organized by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in partnership with the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, the exhibition brings together more than 220 objects, including paintings, silkscreen prints, photographs, works on paper, installations, films, videos and album covers, as well as objects and documents from the artist's personal archives; it will be on view from June 24 through September 11, 2011. The art-making activity in the Grand Lobby is free and open to all visitors.
